The Covenant Journal: A Commentary on the Church

Peripatetikos

The Revd Ann Fontaine is a priest and parish consultant in the Diocese of Wyoming. She writes, "Who gets to decide about abortion is part of the same dynamic of control that attacks gays and lesbians. When the state decides, it means those in power consolidate their power. For those who are in power it is not about 'life.' If it were, we would have health care and education for children. Those who support anti-choice laws (regardless of motive) are like those who say -- I don't agree with the killers of Matthew Shepherd, but I can't support the 'gay lifestyle.'

"With education and jobs, easy access to birth control, support and a future for children, women can make their own moral choices. Few will make the choice to terminate a pregnancy. Those who want to make laws to control women are in ascendancy in the US (note the new nominee for the Supreme Court). I am afraid for my country and our new granddaughter's future."
